The brand that’s older than your grandmother, and just as reliable: Champion is celebrating three digits in the game!
The legendary sportswear imprint kicked off way back in 1919, and since then, they’ve been supplying us with cozy, timeless garments with those little embroidered ‘C’ logos. We love embroidery! From ‘Reverse Weave’ tracksuits to collaborations with Bonds and Bape, few brands have matched the versatility of Champion, which has been the crux of their century-long innings.
In honour of the milestone and the brand’s resonance in the world of hip-hop, we’ve teamed up with Champion to recruit four local emcees for a live cypher, taking place at Glue Store Central Park on Thursday, February 28 at 6:00pm sharp. Introducing your new supergroup: Marty Large, Raj Mahal, Phil Fresh & Nooky.
You probably recognise Marty Large as one-quarter of rap crew Triple One, who’ve spent the past few months playing shows with YG and festivals like Listen Out. Hyperactive Sydney-via-Boston rapper Raj Mahal will also be barking his way through some bars, fresh from supporting Brisbane grime/rap heavyweight Nerve on his national tour.
Mid-way through a string of shows alongside Kwame, the ever-charismatic Phil Fresh will brighten things up with his playful take on hip-hop. And last but not least, Nooky - who’s just come off a national Falls Festival run - will add some grit and greatness to the cypher.
It’s the first time all four of these local heroes have performed on the same track, so come down and celebrate a century with Champion and a coupla punchlines.
